From Manila to Norway: How To Be in Two Places at the Same Time
Hello from beautiful, chilly Norway!
The past few days have been magical. I’m with my family taking in the breathtaking scenery in this part of the world, and I can’t wait to tell you all about it. But I’ll need some time to process all this when I get back, so I can give a proper update and travel story for all of you. For now, I post photos of where we’re at in my Instagram account, under the hashtag #TSMinNorway. Check it out!
As happy as I am to be here now, I had the most difficult time when it came to leaving Manila. On one hand, Norway is in our family bucket list, particularly to catch a sight of the Aurora Borealis (aka the Northern Lights), one of nature’s most spectacular phenomena.
The problem was my schedule went a little crazy. Crazier than usual, to be honest. I’m fairly OC about my calendar and my list of things to do. I schedule things ahead of time when I can. I knew we had a family holiday coming up around this time, but somehow, the dates would not cooperate… the only flight tickets we were able to book fell on the day of the Tatler Luxe Living Trunk Show where Grace Home was to be a part of. I had been preparing for it for weeks: attending meetings about the event while managing production of the items to be sold at the trunk show.
I really considered either: not going on holiday (what a pity that would have been!) or, maybe I could just follow a day after so I could still be present at the trunk show. Grace Home is my baby (not even a year old!) and I just couldn’t leave it all alone on such an important day.
As I agonized about it, consulting with everyone and debating with myself the entire time, I eventually decided that the logical thing to do was to leave on the same day with my family and let Grace Home run as a business — which meant delegating most of the work to my trusted team (sooo much easier said than done, for someone like me). It may mean a little extra stress on the get-go, but I just knew I had to do it! I was given a secret power to manage this dilemma: I had to trust the reliability of my data roaming service.
So yes, on the day of the Tatler Luxe Living Trunk Show, I was hours away from Manila but I somehow managed to be on top of everything. Let me make it clear that it was never an option for me to back out of the event: not only would it have been bad business, but it was crucial to see this through because of the special cause of the trunk show — 20% of our proceeds will be donated to the Child Protection Network, an organization close to my heart because it takes care of abused and neglected children. Of course, Grace Home can’t say no to an opportunity to help and I simply can’t turn my back from children who are in need.
So what did I eventually do? I’ll tell you straight, it wasn’t easy. The entire travel experience to Norway was a bit complicated. We went through four airports (yes, 4!) in more than 24 hours before reaching our first stop in Norway, the city of Bergen. Every time I had a chance, I turned on my phone to check in on the sales and my staff. That meant, every time I was in an airport, I immediately got back to work.
I cannot emphasize enough how reliable my roaming service is and how it had helped me calm my nerves when I was doing this entire double-duty travel arrangement. I must give credit to Smart Infinity’s reliable roaming service, called Smart Surf Abroad, for letting me keep in touch with my staff, stay updated on the sales during the day, and manage inventory thousands and thousands of miles away from Manila!
To cut the story short, Grace Home‘s sales that day went well, which was good news especially for the Child Protection Network, who will receive 20% of our earnings that day. I am blessed and beyond thankful that not only did the day work out more than what I expected, but that Grace Home had the generous support of the trunk show guests and that we were able to contribute substantially to this fund-raising event.
And now, well, I can’t say I’m not working at all anymore, but I am trying to get on holiday mode at least for majority of the time. I can’t help it; I feel the need to keep in touch all the time with my loyal readers of the blog and my happy customers of Grace Home… and all this mobile technology has made things a bit easier and smoother for me. Whether it’s through Whatsapp or Instagram, email or blogging, you’re all going to hear from me in real time… or close enough. 😉
