Shorts Gourmet Manila: Not Your Ordinary Kind of Cookie

January 23, 2013

I love cookies, especially those dotted with Dark Chocolate Chips or those filled with a good amount of quality Peanut Butter. I never really liked those plain butter cookies that have nothing else on them but sugar and well, butter. Nor do I like those Danish cookies that have a hardened “strawberry or blueberry jam” filling in the center.

As you all know, I am a true-blue Chocoholic and a big Peanut Butter fan and so I always look for that add-on, that X factor in my cookies… and I believe that kind of satisfaction can only come from my Dark Chocolate and / or my favorite Peanut Butter spread! 🙂

(See previous posts here and here about my love for all things Chocolate and Peanut Butter.)

Then of course, there are also Shortbread Cookies. I see them most of the time in grocery aisles when I do my shopping, but I never really bothered to get them since I know them to be of plain (read : blah) variety, plus their packaging never really stood out for me!

Well…that was until I found out that there is someone here in Manila who makes Shortbread cookies that are exceptional AND that are filled with Belgian Dark Chocolate in the center! So naturally, as soon as The Spoiled Mummy heard those magic words (Dark Chocolate, hello), I wasted no time and immediately called Shorts Gourmet Manila to order for a box.

I am a big fan of pretty packaging and so when my order came, I was smitten right away! I give them a big thumbs up for their nice and practical packaging! 🙂

Each box contains 3 different kinds of Shortbread Cookies :

Dark Devine, Mocha Latte and Nutrageous Pistacho.

Another plus point for them is that each and every single cookie is packaged individually. This means that we are ensured of every piece’s freshness and quality for a long time.

(I don’t really appreciate it when I open a box of cookies and I am “forced” to consume all of them right away because they lose their freshness or turn soft and soggy by the following day!)

The Nutrageous Pistachio. It has 1 giant Pistachio nut in the center on top of a Pistachio flavored Shortbread Cookie.

The cookie itself has the right amount of saltiness and just a tinge of sweetness to it and the texture is crumbly, and yet not overly soft to mess your chin! 🙂

The second type, the Mocha Latte is made of Coffee flavored Shortbread cookie that is filled with Belgian Dark Chocolate in the center.

I like anything Coffee flavored mixed with my Chocolate, so this has the right combination of the 2 flavors I like. 🙂

Last but not the least, and of course my favorite amongst the 3 flavors : Dark Devine. The base is made of Original flavored Shortbread Cookie and filled in the center with the same Belgian Dark Chocolate as the Mocha Latte.

The light saltiness of this cookie plus the sweetness of this Dark Chocolate just changed my mind about Shortbread Cookies in general. They can be oh-so-yummy after all! 🙂

These cookies are best paired with your morning coffee or afternoon tea. Let me warn you though : these little cookies can be quite addicting and break your diet! My record? 9 cookies in one sitting! (Hey, they are small after all!) 🙂
